FAQs About Alternative to Meds Center

Wondering what the ATMC is like?

Would you like to find out more about the treatments available? Success rates?

You can refer to these ATMC FAQs for a better understanding of who we are and what to expect. Should you have another question or would like to chat with a member of our professional staff, please feel free to contact us at your convenience.

We are here to help.

Do you prescribe medications?
For certain situations, yes. While the goal is typically to help people reduce medication dependence, there are, in some cases, bridge medications temporarily used to assist in the transition process.
How long does the program last?
Typically, the program is 60 days though the timelines can vary depending on the individual. What we are introducing here is a lifestyle, and in that sense, meant to last a lifetime.
Do I have to commit to being medication-free to participate?
No. There are cases where the lowest possible dose is the best interim strategy while a person is embarking on the holistic path of wellness. And there are participants who wish to come off a certain medication or drug, but want to retain using another prescription. We respect these choices and invite people to inquire about their options as our patients’ input is a vital part of our treatment assessment.
Will my family and friends be able to contact and visit me?
Of course! A large component of mental health is connecting you to the ones you love. There are very few cases where a friend or family member was a true detriment to treatment and asked to keep a respectful distance. But in all reasonable cases, we promote family and friend contact.
How many residents can we accommodate at one time?
We can easily accommodate up to 18 persons at one time. We have a combination of shared and private accommodations available.
Do I have to do everything in the program?
No. Each person’s program is designed to suit individual ability and need. There are core aspects that are to some degree “required” but much of the program can be tailored to adjust for individual preference. Our view is that each person is unique and needs to be treated as such.
Is ATMC treatment evidence based?
Yes. The treatment protocols used at ATMC are backed by scientific evidence in the form of clinical trials, statistical outcomes and proven efficacy. The staff who deliver the program components have been hand-picked for their sincere compassion and their competence, fully licensed and their credentials speak for themselves. Is tapering medication safe?
Yes. Safety is our priority. Tapering correctly and carefully monitored is safe. The goal is not necessarily “med-free” in all cases — but to reduce the harmful effects of medication as much as possible, and to provide drug-free alternatives that work. Tapering too fast and without competent oversight can definitely lead to difficulties. Different drug classes need specifically tailored protocols and strategies in place throughout the process. For your specific drug class please review a comprehensive description of methods used for medication tapering.
What is the aftercare for the program?
Our philosophy for aftercare is that our program is a training program. In fact, the moment you walk through our doors, we start to prepare you for ongoing success when you complete the program and are ready to head home. We empower and educate you to be well-equipped to care for your own mental wellness, to develop new habits that will be sustainable when you leave. In addition, we work closely with you to create a very detailed aftercare plan to set you up with appropriate resources in your home area, a schedule, as well as ongoing supplementation and life coaching if you so choose.
What makes ATMC different from other treatment centers?
Because of the wide range of services provided, we are capable of addressing many types of addiction and mental health issues successfully. Our protocols blend licensed medical care, alternative treatments, lab testing, tailored and exacting tapering methods, nutritional psychiatry, holistic detox, comfort therapies, and much more. The center is situated in a world-class retreat style facility in beautiful sunny Sedona, which is renowned for its intrinsic health and healing benefits, like no other place on earth.
How long does the program take?
Programs are designed and tailored according to your personal health profile and treatment goals. Timing can vary, but generally several months is the average, depending on factors that are unique to you. Short term programs may not be long enough to ensure long term results. Once an initial assessment is done, (which can begin, at least in part, over the phone)  your situation will be reviewed by the medical team. Your consultant will then be able to discuss the estimate with you to assist in the decision-making and planning stage.
Can you work with my doctor or prescribing psychiatrist?
Certainly. This is enabled with your previous caregivers openness to working with you post-treatment. Alternately, we can help find caregivers local to you who are able to continue assisting you. Collaborative care and data-sharing are topics we welcome to discuss with your physician, or an alternatively selected caregiver, so we can continue to work together as a team.
What are the success rates?
For details on ATMC’s independently prepared outcome studies, we invite you to review our clients’ success rates over many years as we track this area closely. ATMC Success
Will insurance cover my program fees?
We have consultants who will do the important leg-work on your behalf to find out what your provider will cover. We aim to make this process as stress-free as possible so you can concentrate on your recovery.
Do you treat dual diagnosis & co-occurring disorders?
Yes. Dual-diagnosis and co-occurring disorders are a common problem, as a significant percentage of persons with mental health issues may also have developed dependence or addiction issues, and vice versa.
