Well, sitting here on my last night, I am proud of my accomplishments here at Alternative to Meds Center. I have learned more than I could ever have imagined in eight weeks. I’m thankful for all the staff; they made the taper and detox process run smoothly.

When I got here I was sleeping fifteen (or more) hours every day. Also, I just didn’t feel good. Coming off my psych meds, Klonopin and Zyprexa, I really felt the cloud in my brain clear. The best advice I got was that I need to find something in my life that I would do for free, then get a job doing that. Getting paid for what you love to do, it’s like cheating the system.

Detox sucks, sure, but the sauna truly works wonders. I learned to stay calm and breathe because this moment is all we have. I was reminded that the future is uncertain, and the past is long gone. I watched my fellow residents doing two hours of sauna and it changed their lives in the best way possible.

After all the weekend outings and great food, I felt myself healing. Strong and fast, like skiing down a mountain, I grew through every second at Alternative to Meds Center. Now that I’m leaving, I’m scared, sure, but I was told that being scared and being excited releases the same chemicals in your brain. The next steps in my life are going to be hurdles, but I will always remember these eight weeks.

Livin’ life and lovin’ it!
