Bupropion Side Effects

We know at Alternative to Meds Center that better solutions are available besides taking Bupropion, and fighting Bupropion side effects for a lifetime.

The most common antidepressant side effects are identified during clinical research studies in which the side effects experienced in one group of individuals who are taking the medication are compared with the side effects experienced by another group of individuals not taking the medication. In these studies, the most frequently identified side effects of Bupropion, AKA Wellbutrin, included: agitation in 31.9% of users, weight loss in 28%, dry mouth in 27.6%, constipation in 26%, headaches in 25.7%, vomiting or nausea in 22.9%, dizziness in 22.3%, increased sweating in 22.3%, tremors (shakiness) in 21.1%, insomnia in 18.6%, appetite loss in 18.3%, blurred vision in 14.6%, rapid heart rate in 10.8%, confusion in 8.4%, hostility in 5.6%, irregular heart rhythms in 5.3%, and hearing changes in 5.3% of users.

Other Wellbutrin antidepressant side effects, which occur in 1% to 5% of users, include: menstrual problems or changes, high blood pressure, feelings of a forcefully or rapidly beating heart, increased appetite, indigestion, anxiety, arthritis, decreased sex drive, impotence or erectile dysfunction, taste changes, fainting, and low blood pressure. There are several possible generic Wellbutrin side effects that users should report to their medical healthcare provider, which include: seizures, suicidal behavior or thoughts, anxiety or panic attacks, agitation, aggressiveness or hostility, inability to stay still or restlessness, engaging in dangerous or unusual activities, feelings of happiness or extreme elation which may change back and forth to a sad or depressed mood, other changes in behavior that are unusual, hallucinations, chest palpitations, fast heart rate, feelings of internal restlessness or jitteriness, and difficulty sleeping.

All side effects are side effects, and they should be reported, even if they may not seem serious at the time; they may turn into serious issues later. Secondary effects may also seem totally unrelated to the medication, such as acne, a bladder infection, or bronchitis. However, acne, bladder infections and bronchitis are among the rare antidepressant side effects of Bupropion which less than 1% users experience with this medication. Since it is hard to tell if these effects are associated with the medication or are from something else, it is particularly important to be aware of them and seek Bupropion side effects help if they arise. These rare effects can include hair loss, acne, mood swings, ulcers, canker sores, high blood sugar or low blood sugar, bronchitis, memory loss, bladder infections, and flushing (redness in the skin, particularly the face).

The above-mentioned Wellbutrin side effects can be very bothersome, painful, intrusive, irritable, impeding, and even dangerous. These effects are one reason people often have for wanting to stop taking their antidepressant medication, read more about Bupropion alternatives. Especially when a person is trying to get better and the medicine that is supposed to help them get better, in fact, is making things worse. At this point, it is often time to transition into a more effective alternative. First though, the user will often have to physically withdraw from the drug, which should be done in a rehab under a physician’s supervision in order for Bupropion withdrawal to be safe and comfortable. An individual is usually prescribed an antidepressant before there being adequate investigation into why they are struggling with depression.

Most individuals were started on these medications during a traumatic time in their life, and years later they continue to take the drug and suffer with side effects and symptoms of Bupropion withdrawal when attempting to stop the medication. At Alternative to Meds Center Rehab, we work to help individuals reduce their dependence upon antidepressants and other substances with medical supervision. To combat side effects while the medication is withdrawn, oral supplements and targeted IV nutrients are employed. This is done in combination with discovering the real underlying causes of why the individual was originally depressed, which can provide success that is lasting without medication. Our drug treatment program also includes stabilization of the neurochemistry with natural substances, medication withdrawal techniques, and cessation from a build-up of environmental neurotoxins, nutritional support, peer support, massage therapy, exercise, personal training, yoga and other therapies to combat antidepressant side effects.
