Success Story – Patty on Sept 29, 2012:
“I was referred to Alternative to Meds Center by Cynthia Perkins, a member of the Alliance for Addiction Solutions. I felt hopeless as I suffered from a condition called Mal de DeBarquement Syndrome, a rare disorder which made me feel like I was on a boat as my world was constantly moving. I was on Klonopin, and I had been on many antidepressants including Effexor. I was afraid to come off the Klonopin as I had expected a worsening of my vertigo, however not only did I not suffer withdrawal, but my syndrome for which I was told there was no cure has diminished and disappeared!!!! This is a landmark case. I am a moderator on the blog of this rare syndrome, and am touting the methods of ATMC. When Lyle Murphy suggested to me that I may see improvement as the ATMC detox had helped with my neurological symptoms, I was doubtful. But I am now a believer. I thought I would suffer for life. Now I am waking with lots of energy and found that what I did at ATMC was the answer. I feel great."

and physical health problems.
Mal de Débarquement Syndrome, also known as Disembarkment Syndrome or MdDS, is an uncommon condition of perceived movement that most commonly develops after an ocean cruise, extensive auto, air, train, or boat travel, or other movement experience. Mal de Debarquement is a French phrase that means disembarkation sickness. Some people develop MdDS unexpectedly, i.e., they do not have a particular motion event. More frequent in women than men, Mal de Debarquement Syndrome symptoms include a feeling of motion (swaying, rocking, tumbling,) that is typically associated with imbalance, fatigue and cognitive impairment. Impaired cognition can include short term loss of memory, lack of ability to remember words, and lack of ability to multi-task.

relief from MdDS symptoms.
Common symptoms of MdDS include visual disturbances, dizziness, migraines or headaches, anxiety, and confusion. It is also documented that some patients have described ear related symptoms such as tinnitus, hyperacusis, pain, and even decreased hearing. The severity of symptoms varies substantially between patients but can be quite disabling. In many cases, MdDS can continue for years, is commonly undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, the cause is unknown, and effective treatment is difficult to find. Prescription medication is usually prescribed for MdDS, however, is usually not effective. At Alternative to Meds Center, we may be able to offer an answer to MdDS with medication tapering, holistic medication alternatives and mental health solutions.
medicating and doctors visits.
The symptoms of MdDS are often increased by mental health problems, medication, drug or alcohol addiction, lack of sleep, stress, crowds, sudden movements, flickering lights, busy or enclosed areas, and loud sounds. The syndrome is felt to be underreported in the medical literature, where less than 100 cases have been researched. If you feel that you may have MdDS, we may be able to help you overcome the syndrome through balancing mental health and providing effective alternatives to prescription drugs.
to stabilize the brain and body.
Traditional medicine notes that medications such as benzodiazepine clonazepam can suppress brain circuits and nerves involved in balance but that these medications do not appear to provide permanent relief. As the recommended medications for this syndrome do not typically provide lasting success, Alternative to Meds Center may be able to offer effective alternative options besides medication and subsequently alleviate the symptoms of MdDS.
